Abstract

This poster explores data librarianship through the lens of the professional data community IASSIST (International Association for Social Science Information Services and Technology). As librarians and other information professionals work to build and sustain data and technology services, they must situate themselves within international contexts to determine scope, develop strategy, and benchmark accomplishments of success. Globally since the late 1970s, IASSIST has been present to lend leadership, expertise, and support for applied and theoretical data and technology projects in libraries and other information centers. IASSIST aims to cultivate long-lasting professional relationships with IFLA librarians in data and technology services, creating a bridge of communication between both organizations. IFLA members visiting this poster will have the opportunity to see the scope of recent international data and technology service activities by select IASSIST members, and can, therefore, begin thinking about how these might translate to their own institutions. By providing summaries of real case studies at institutions on a world map, this poster will inspire IFLA delegates to seek out new data and technology projects and empower them to work alongside IASSIST to create a more robust, interconnected, and transformative professional data community relevant for worldwide information environments.
