Abstract

A foundational aspect of diversity is the value of inclusion. With inclusion, a culture of openness and engagement can be experienced by all employees reducing inequity within an organization. Recognizing and cherishing the richness of diversity, through a range of opinions, ideas, culture, and individuals, strengthens an organization’s ability to achieve its mission and connect with its community. With inclusion, leaders can create a culture of openness and engagement for all employees. In an inclusive culture, leaders can successfully broaden the diversity of ideas, cultures, and experiences throughout their libraries benefiting their organizations. Leaders have a powerful role in creating inclusive libraries that result in innovative organizations and improved library services meeting community needs. Three deans from US universities will discuss strategies to create a culture that is engaging for all employees and its community. Specific successful initiatives will be provided demonstrating efforts to build equity. As a result of this discussion, participants will be able to consider their strategy to foster inclusiveness that will lead to diversity goals of their organizations and our global profession.
