Abstract

Marvila Public Library was opened in 2016, in a stigmatized neighborhood with a wide range of cultures. This library is the result of a participative community process, so since its very first day, it became a space for empowerment, inspiration, creation and, most of all, inclusion. The library doesn’t do social work, but its daily activity and partnerships are generating a real positive social impact. We truly believe that the arts encourage lifelong learning by providing motivation, building skills and fostering values. The Arts, such as Street Art, Theater, Woodcraft and others, are our most powerful tool to build cohesive and inclusive community in Marvila. We believe that everyone is touched by the Arts, so it will continue to transform the lives of this community and bring about true growth in the neighborhood. Our belief is already transforming real people’s lives.
