Abstract
In 2018, the University of Arkansas Libraries completed a large-scale storage facility using cross-laminated timber, a departure from typical steel beam construction, and other natural products. It was our intention that this construction would raise awareness of renewable and sustainable products for use in large-scale building projects. We have been successful in expanding the dialogue on our larger community leading to architectural seminars on wood construction and state-wide discussions on the use of renewable sources for building materials leading to the potential development of new timber-related economic opportunities within our state. This poster will be highly visual and will describe the building of the library annex, the materials used, and the benefits (economic and environmental) supplied through this type of construction. It will also highlight the educational and informational opportunities for supporting green construction.
