Abstract
The Children's Department at the Jagodina Public Library transforms its large window, overlooking the busy main street
with a lot of passers-by, into a unique and vibrant exhibition space. Librarians create various objects from recycled
materials that reflect themes such as seasons, nature, book characters, holidays, etc, while including books connected
to these themes. It is regulalry updated with new thematic objects in order to keep the display interesting and appealing.
The window catches the attention of passers-by, especially children and serves as a visual invitation to the library.
Children admire the vibrant and eye-catching displays and become inspired to explore the books on the themes that are
presented. Children are invited to participate in hands-on workshops where they make objects for the library window
with librarians. The Library's goals with this initiative are to promote a love of reading, encourage creativity and handson
learning, raise environmental awareness, increase library visits and memberships and to enhance the library's visibility
and reputation within the local community. Over the past two years, the window displays have led to a 29% in foot traffic
to the Children's Department, as well as a 25 % increase in members.
