Abstract

Knowledge and information already appear in a significant share of the 169 targets that accompany the 17 Sustainable Development Goals, with a mixture of explicit and implicit references. However, this is too rarely mirrored in the related indicator framework, creating a risk of not being able to track and so demonstrate the contribution of knowledge and information to development. Where relevant indicators do exist, they often have limited coverage, both of countries and over time. The positive examples that do exist nonetheless show what is possible and offer a basis for thinking both about what more effective indicators might exist now, and/or could be incorporated into future development frameworks.
