Abstract

The National Central Library (NCL) Southern Branch is set to open in Tainan City, southern Taiwan, and it is much more than just a place to store books. Moving away from traditional, monumental library designs, this facility embraces a philosophy of "openness and transparency." By integrating natural greenery with advanced digital technology, it strives to become a vibrant hub for knowledge exchange and professional development in the region. To lead the transformation of the library profession, the Southern Branch has established the "LIS Innovation Lab." This lab is designed to serve as a national venue for professional training and the implementation of emerging technologies. Its service planning focuses on two core pillars: "ACTIVE Framework for Professional Empowerment" and "Innovative and Inclusive Service R&D." Pillar 1: ACTIVE Framework for professional empowerment The framework offers an extensive curriculum that redefines librarians' expertise. It covers foundational topics such as Advanced Information Organization and Collection Development, while diving deep into modern essentials like AI-driven applications, Media and Information Literacy, and Social Media Marketing.
