The IFLA ALP (Advancement of Librarianship in Developing Countries) Programme : A Bibliography 1966-1990

Abstract

The objective of the bibliography has been to trace the development of IFLA policy for support of librarianship in the third world over time, the development of awareness of and sensitivity to its issues within the library and information world, and the way in which professionals in third world countries have found an effective voice. It does not aim to be a comprehensive bibliography of libraries and librarianship in the third world, which would be a much larger task. The emphasis on IFLA's own development has meant the omission of much fascinating material. It has not been possible to include the many UNESCO papers and publications ; the general professional journals published in the third world have not been covered, neither have conferences organised by other library associations, including those of the third world. Nevertheless, the items listed here tell a useful story in documenting IFLA's own development, and are themselves of immense value.
